How does bankruptcy affect my taxes?
I filed for bankruptcy in 2008 in Colorado, however it will not be discharged until February of this year. When I am filling out my tax returns for this year, how will they be affected? Do I need to claim that I filed in 2008? Does it not apply until next year, since it will be discharged in 2009? Is it possible to lose my refund, if I am entitled to one? I think I will get some money back, but not much.
Unless your bankruptcy trustee has made an issue of it, just file your return normally. Consult your attorney just to make sure.
